August Beauty Faves

Monday, August 11, 2014

As someone who has been wearing makeup since the ripe age of about 12 I can say I've tried many many many things in the world of beauty. Most of what I have tried and loved, I tried because I have sampled something a friend owned or have gotten out of recommendation. Let's be honest, if someone lets me know, "Hey, this works and here's how and why I love it!" I am about 99 times more likely to try it myself.

Now I know not all of my readers are as hair/makeup obsessed as I am, but I'd like to think that there are people who wonder what my all time favorite beauty products are and I'm more than happy to share! So friends, I won't keep y'all waiting, here's the list as of late!

[the photos above show each product in order from left to right]

Okay. I LOVE this product! I received this as a sample in my Ipsy Bag last month and it was instant love. As someone with naturally wavy hair I've tried multiple salt sprays trying to achieve that effortless wavy look, and though they somewhat worked, nothing compares to this. This is the first beach hair spray I've used that has actually IMPROVED the quality of my hair. I just throw my hair in a braid when it's damp and spray some of the Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal spray on it and when I wake up my hair is AWESOME. What I really like about this is it doesn't leave my hair feeling greasy or crunchy, which is perfect for that natural look!

[I used the spray the day of this picture, just to give y'all an idea]

This was given to me by a great friend who has worked in the makeup industry. I've always been skeptical of moisturizers, but when I got my first wrinkle (yes I have ONE wrinkle) when I was 19 I threw caution to the wind and decided no amount of skepticism could hold me back anymore. To my surprise, using this did not make my skin oily or break me out, in fact I feel so rejuvenated the morning after I use this mask. And OH MY GOODNESS I love the smell. This is the best moisturizer ever!

Speaking of wrinkles on my skin, I'm going to let y'all know I searched for way too long for a full coverage foundation that lasts and doesn't weigh my face down. Another issue I have through the winter is the fact that I'm super pale and can't find a foundation that's light enough. What I like about this foundation is that a little goes a LONG way in terms of coverage, and they make a shade called porcelain ivory that is perfection for those of us who turn into ghosts in the colder months ;)

This is something I actually got for free from Sephora for my birthday, and I don't know where my lips would be without it. This is my "my lips, but better" lipstick. And paired with the Sephora Collection Nano Lip Liner in Cute Caramel it's perfection. Where has this been all my life? My lips look thin no more thanks to these two. Ode to perfect lipstick colors.

I honestly think if you're looking to get bang for your buck, Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri Collection is the way to go. All of my favorite polishes are through this brand, as it's usually the best quality for the lowest price. I like. Anywho, I actually chose this shade of mint over any other mint colored polish in the entire store, and it ended up being the most affordable as well! I love that it isn't sheer so I can just use one coat, while being the perfect not-too-light-not-too-dark shade for my nails. This is honestly going to be a hard color to beat the next time I go to buy nail polish, as it looks good with a tan but will also look great when my skin tone cools down soon with fall coming around the corner. Love it, love it, love it. Four for you, Sally Hansen, you go, Sally Hansen!
